Offline Gmail (and Google Apps)

Published by Tei Baishiki under Technology.

Google has updated it’s “Offline Gmail” app for Google Chrome browser users to add keyboard shortcuts as well as the option to set how far back email is saved locally.

Now when I’m in the field without email, or on an airplane, I can access my existing email, reply to messages, or create new email. After regaining Internet connectivity, Offline Gmail will send and sync up.

The newest upgrade enables keyboard shortcuts. I have gone over the Gmail (and Google Apps) keyboard shortcuts in my Tech Talk training and EVERYONE who absolutely loves the efficiency that it provides. Now, it’s available to the Offline Gmail. A very nice upgrade!

Google Maps’ URL Shortener g.co

Published by Tei Baishiki under Technology.

Google has released their URL shortener “g.co” as a full blown feature for Google Maps.

We all use Google Maps to send to friends, family, and clients. Likewise, we all receive Google Maps links on a regular basis. We are all used to the long and ugly URL like http://maps.google.com/maps?q=dublin,+ca&hl=en&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=57.292148,82.353516&vpsrc=0&z=13 but now know and feel confident that if you see a short URL like http://g.co/maps/jz53 that it is safe to click on and to send to others.

Gmail Preview Pane

Published by Tei Baishiki under Technology.

Google has released a new “labs” feature called Preview Pane. Quite simply it gives you the more Outlookesque feel of preview pane either to the right or below your inbox emails.

It’s pretty slick but so far the only thing I don’t like is that it doesn’t allow for the “Multiple Inboxes” lab feature to display below. So I guess that this point I have to decide which I like better.
